If Paul Revere Were to Ride Today...

Just suppose, just for a moment, that the events of the Revolutionary War period would be happening today.  And suppose Mr. Revere were to ride and give warning...

Paul Revere got into his convertible, started the engine and began his ride.  He picked up the bullhorn he had stored in the seat next to him and yelled into it: "The British are coming! The British are coming!"

The first person he rode by never looked up from texting on his smartphone.
The second person observed: "You know, he really should just start a hashtag."
The third person said to the fourth person: "Oh, I just don't want to even think about anything political."
The fourth person replied: "I know, if it doesn't impact my daily life, I just don't care."
The fifth person responded, "Oh, he's just being alarmist, anyway."
The sixth person said to the seventh person, "Hey, did you catch 'Survival Nation' last night?"
The seventh person replied: "Oh yes, and wasn't that blowout between Larry and Harry something?"

And somewhere, George Washington, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and the rest of the Founding Fathers - and Founding Mothers - must be crying.

  1. Yeah our founding fathers and mothers are crying alright! It's a shame that many people nowadays have no sense in defending our nation from enemies both foreign and domestic.

I know two individuals who wrapped themselves in the American flag, but yet stay out of world events and politics.... They consider themselves patriotic, but yet they feel no obligations whatsoever in maintaining the equilibrium between the people and the government.

There's too much of an disconnect between the people and the government. That needs to change! All these TV shows and movies are just distractions. Thanks for the share!

  2. Hi Tim - always glad to have you stop by!

It's a shame, but yes, people too often just cocoon themselves unless something affects them or their families very directly. Often then, it's too late.

You said: "There's too much of an disconnect between the people and the government." That is absolutely correct. I think some people forget: the U. S. does not equal the military; the U.S. does not equal the flag or the national anthem or the pledge; the U. S. doesn't even equal the government. The U. S. is "We, the People." The U. S. is - US!

    P. S. Invitation is still open - would you like me to put a link to your blog on my site list?
